Timberland has always been committed to the planet. It only makes sense: for more than 40 years, our footwear and apparel has taken people into the outdoors—across cities and countryside. Today, we are as dedicated to limiting our impact on the earth as ever, and have increased our use of eco-conscious materials with each passing year.
Here are the ways we're making a difference
Leather
Timberland is committed to the goal of sourcing the finest quality leathers only from tanneries that have achieved a Silver or Gold rating from the Leather Working Group for their water, energy and waste management practices.
Wool
We use wool for its remarkable insulation, easy care, and great looks. The wool we use comes from non-mulesed sheep.
Responsible Down Standard
The down we use in select pieces of our insulated apparel is certified by the Responsible Down Standard. This standard is used to ensure our down comes from suppliers that have proven adherence to strict animal husbandry policies.
Recycled Rubber
Outsoles featuring a green hexagon are made with 34% recycled rubber.
Recycled Pet
We give plastic bottles a second life by using recycled PET in our footwear and apparel. In four years alone, we used the equivalent of 128 million water bottles.
Linen
The soft, durable, year-round fabric is made from flax—a plant that can be harvested multiple times per season.
Cotton
We support the use of responsibly grown cotton, and prefer to use organic cotton, since it’s grown without genetically modified seeds, synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. When we don’t use organic, we strive to use Better Cotton; cotton grown with the environment, productivity and the farmers’ wellbeing in mind.
