Timberland has been crafting hand-stitched footwear for decades. And while technology has come a long way since the 1970s, it still can't come close to the one-of a kind, custom fit and feel of our handsewn collections. It's the reason we say that "It takes 30 times longer to make them, And it's worth every minute."
Because of the way we cut and stitch the leather, handsewns not only fit better right away, but only get better the more you wear them.
The art of handsewn shoes pretty much goes back to the dawn of shoes themselves. It is one of the oldest known constructions in shoemaking and as far as we're concerned it is still one of the best - the best of fit, durability and overall comfort.
Back in 1978, we introduced our first handsewn, consisting of a boat shoe on top and our Yellow Boot's lug outsole on the bottom. It made for a slightly unusual yet incredibly popular combination. Today, we're not only continued to hand sew this very same model, but we've incorporate this tried and true art form into other styles, including chukkas and boots. They're all part of the Timberland Authentics Collections.
